HOW TO OBSERVE
Touch and hold the portrait — or focus it and hold the space bar — and it degrades backward through the machine's training history, un-learning itself toward noise. Let go and it recovers.
In the gallery, lifting the headphones triggers the same collapse — a measurement event, in the sense Jung and Pauli meant it: observation alters the observed, the way remembering rewrites a memory.
TRAINING HISTORY: NOISE TO FACE
SYNTHETIC MEMORY
The portrait comes from a GAN trained exclusively on the artist's hand-painted works — no external datasets, a machine whose only memory is her painting. Snapshots saved during training capture its progression from noise to a recognizable face; played in reverse, they become a timeline of forgetting.
IN THE GALLERY
The portrait floats in a layered acrylic light box, edge-lit neon pink. Below it a Raspberry Pi 5 runs exposed at the center of an LED-edged dichroic diamond, flanked by two character LCDs murmuring the machine's inner monologue. Lifting the headphones is the act of observation that collapses the portrait. One power outlet, no network.

Every failure is a confession.......
I investigate the space between perception and reality—where systems break down, where meaning fragments, where the signal corrupts.
Systems betray themselves through breakdown. The error state is the honest state—where you finally see how the illusion was built. These moments of failure are moments of truth. They show us the scaffolding beneath our perceptions, the arbitrary nature of our meaning-making systems.
What remains when the illusion of certainty dissolves? What information is new?
What do we do with this information once we have it? Who do we tell? How do we say it?
I am a software engineer and transmedia artist. Fifteen years inside the systems—developer relations, forward-deployed engineering, lead roles at Salesforce, CrowdStrike, and beyond—taught me how they are built. Twenty years of painting, video, and music taught me where they break. TheTechMargin is where the two practices stopped being separate.
The current work goes deep on machine memory: a GAN trained only on my own paintings, LoRA models trained on my own artwork, poetry-to-animation pipelines, generative audio. Machines that remember only what I made—and what happens when you watch them forget.
